The best compliments for me are always really specific. in those moment I feel really seen, and it’s the being seen I think rather than the necessarily the compliment that hits! Three examples:
- my producer when working on my EP said “you have a great ear, Nancy”
- a guy in my writers group when I’d not long joined told me “the comments you make on others’ work is always a joy to listen to and I always find myself agreeing. you can tell it comes from compassion not judgement”
- my boyfriend when we’d just started seeing each other said “i like the texture of your brain” and then made a meme of his shitposting page saying “your brain texture pleases me”. that was the height of romance.
