Connan is severely underrated, one of our greatest living shredders, with an astonishingly live band (featuring rory of infinite bisous on guitar) to boot This performance on a rooftop in Auckland from 2015 is a great document of that. It’s got ronette wigs, Connan’s dad singing a Beatles cover, and even Mac Demarco as one of the back up singers

there are of course a bunch of amazing concerts that i wasn't alive for that i wish i could have witnessed, but genuinely, the first thing that came to mind was this video. the dim incandescent lighting, justin vernon's haunting vocals and the intimacy of that small apartment in rue des abbesses, paris... there's something so beautifully human and tender about witnessing live music in unintended spaces and i hope to experience something like that in my lifetime

this will be familiar to some and new to others, however, it will, unequivocally, be enjoyed by all. young homies of PI- i urge you to practice longterm fandom. i’ve been riding for justin vernon for a long time, and especially with this latest batch of music, it’s been rewarding to say the least.

In the BBs‘ tumultuous early 70s period, they decided to leave the Cali shore for - the Netherlands. They brought a whole entourage & reassembled a soundboard built for them in LA, leading to one of the most expensive records made at the time. Stand outs are the moody and strangely heavy “Steamboat,” the mini rock opera “California Saga,” the rollicking “The Trader,” and the closer “Funky Pretty,” a strange but tuneful pop song that only could’ve come from Brian Wilson’s beautiful and deteriorating mind.
