I understand not everyone has this luxury, unfortunately. But my personal rule is if a holiday falls on a Tuesday or a Thursday, I am also taking off Monday or Friday, respectively, even if that means spending some PTO.
having my weekends be monday-wednesday has done wonders for me!! yes you miss out on some weekend festivities BUT it means that your days off are truly YOURS. parks are wide open, stores are empty, traffic ain't too bad, the city is MINEEEEE
