Why does Everything from the past look so futuristic, so much more advanced in useful nature. It's a shame every thing has turned into An ugly commodity

“ It’s 2025 as I write this, and I’m holding what would’ve been seen as a supercomputer just 50 years ago in the palm of my hand. I can Google any image, take a photo, post it online, and reach millions in seconds. But still… I find myself missing the past. The “good days.” And maybe you do too. For years now, I’ve noticed something. When I scroll, I see grainy VHS clips, blurry digital photos, old games on outdated consoles. And I always ask why. But I know the answer. Everything today feels polished. We’ve got 8K, 160fps, ultra-HD in our pockets. Even the cheapest cameras capture insane quality. But is that a true reflection of us? I don’t think so. We’re drawn to what’s imperfect because we’re imperfect. That raw, nostalgic look feels more real. And especially in moments of uncertainty, people turn to it for comfort. It’s familiar. It feels safe. According to fMRI studies, nostalgia even lights up reward centers in our brain, particularly the medial prefrontal cortex. That’s why you see it everywhere now. People are buying old iPhones just to get the early 2010s look in photos. Brands are tapping into that too. Nostalgia marketing has seen a 20 to 30 percent rise recently. It’s not just media. It’s clothes, logos, design. Minimalism and modernism made everything clean, but in doing so, kind of erased the personality. People want character again. They want imperfection. They want bold, messy, loud. They want to feel something. “

📱They got it so wrong but it love it. The optimism and creativity was top notch. They really thought we would have flying cars and microwaves that would make full meals.

😃i am (early?) gen z so i was very much a child during this period
with that said, don’t be fooled by youtube drum and bass playlists or weepy-eyed disney channel retrospectives - much of the mainstream culture of this era was insanely bad. that is obviously still true today, but the difference is that the monoculture was still alive in the 2000s, so your ability to opt-out and find subcultural niches that had cool stuff going on was significantly curtailed compared to today. you basically *had* to be literally anorexic to be conventionally attractive, there was no political “left” to speak of (not that it mattered to me when i was a literal child but still), and as others have mentioned, insane 9/11 hysteria lasted well into the obama era.
with all that said the thought of having to grow up today is honestly terrifying. i am old enough that social media did not become culturally dominant until high school (i had a dumbphone until freshman year), and i do feel blessed to have grown up on a pre-web 2.0 internet. you still were able to buy things and own them. a huge number of the greatest games of all time came out during this period, and every mainstream multiplayer release wasn’t just a casino with a mid fps attached to it. amazon had yet to completely conquer the earth. the government kind of worked. i don’t think i would go back because i’ve been spoiled by the sheer volume of amazing things that i have access to today and i do think we’ve made some solid sociopolitical progress, but there are definitely some things i miss

i get a free scoop every shift, and i Make chocolate covered strawberries 🍓 it reminds me of the game candy land. i used to play it all the time as a kid And chew on the pieces. i Love Ice-cream so much that even when the Mean old people come in i still have a Smile on my face
