The feeling of performing is indescribable. I closed a show this week and I’m a little heartbroken but so grateful for the experience. I would recommend everyone does some sort of performing arts in their life

In my final year of high school, I signed up for the senior musical on a whim. Like a bunch of other queers, I enjoyed musical theatre. I wasn't a "theatre kid", but I had listened to a couple soundtracks here and there. I thought I'd at least have fun, and I knew I was friends with some people doing it. Little did I know the Filipino singing gene never loses, and neither does the Filipino acting gene. Somehow I managed to get a lead role (I was Donkey in Shrek the Musical) with loads of lines and a few solo songs. It was the greatest experience I ever had in high school and it happened in my last year. I met new people, discovered new talents and passions, and built some of my strongest friendships ever thanks to the time I spent in the musical. If I never decided to do the show because I thought it would be fun, I don't think I'd be nearly as happy with myself as I am now.

do not EVER let someone judge you for loving when people sing and dance for no reason!! embrace joy!! embrace whimsy!! embrace the inherent magic of live theatre!!

I know there is a certain stigma around the "theater kid" but I love a musical. They (mostly) are a lot of fun and sometimes they can really make you cry and feel something. For instance, as I'm writing this I'm watching one of my all-time favorites "Gypsy" specifically the one with Bette Midler. This film is the original Dance Moms, literally a show about a mom who pushed her kids into show business so hard that one of them ran away and the other became a stripper (Okay burlesque dancer but the show is set in the 1920s so like the same thing). Now I should specify when I say musical I don't mean you should put on any of these new shows that are just adaptations of films with badly written scores. Watch any musical written pre-2010 and post-1950s and I can guarantee It will be a fun time (unless you're one of those people who says the singing doesn't make sense cause in the real world nobody would sing, stop hating fun!) All I'm gonna finish with is they are so fun and campy (sometimes) and often have lots of interesting ideas and ways of presenting them (like the film adaptation of Cabaret? so good).

Such an incredible and underrated artist, discovered them through one of their older posts on here and I’m shocked that they aren’t more popular. Such a perfect mix between poetry and singing that is Grammy worthy.
