i graduated with my master's last week. my dad and several of my lifelong friends flew up to celebrate me. i showed them around my new city, introduced them to my new friends, and just hung out with the people i love the most. i love my new friends here so dearly, but i'd forgotten what it was like to be surrounded by people i've loved for years, some even decades. i forgot what it was like to be known so truly and deeply by the people around me, to laugh so easily and constantly because they know exactly what i find funniest. i know i'm a closed book a lot of the time and it can be hard to get to know me, so my newer friends haven't gotten to that point yet at no fault of their own, but i didn't know how refreshing it would be to be immersed in such familiarity in my new home. i'm utterly exhausted from the week everyone was here, but i'm so filled with joy and love and i miss everyone greatly already.

i saw three of my closest friends again today and just. god i love them so much. the worst part of adulthood is seeing your friends less - though hopefully when people have graduated and everyone's in the same city again it'll be better, it sucks knowing i'll never see them as often as i used to back in high school. dogpiling onto the common room couch to watch anime and lying in the sun during break and eating lunch together everyday and everything just being less high stakes? high school had its problems, don't get me wrong, but i think a part of me will always yearn for how much less lonely it was. so it was a delight as ever to get to hang out today, i found myself taking as many photos as i used to and there's something close friends will always manage to squeeze in your heart when you see them. love y'all so so much!!! we might not have another group hangout til next winter but i'll be counting the days <333333 ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝˚₊♡₊˚⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝

I feel so Grateful that I have so many lovely friends across the world. I love a catchup phone call. I love a photo dump of a life deeply foreign and unattached from my own. I love feeling excited for my friends from a far when they get a job interview or a first date.

Stayed at a friend’s place and it was so nice to get to be welcomed into her family for a bit. I love seeing the dynamics and jokes and core memories and references each family has. But it always makes me so so sad in a deep achy way the next few days. I know all families have their own issues too.

this idea of "you don't owe anyone anything" came about through the social media therapists that try to diagnose complete strangers with a multitude of issues and complexes. all it has done has made selfish people more selfish and divided us as a community. you do not owe everyone everything, but if you consider yourself part of a community, a society, you do owe everyone something. at a base level you owe people kindness, respect (as long as they haven't lost the right to it), and basic human decency. you owe your loved ones even more. stop being selfish and rude in the name of treating your so-called "people pleasing."

if one more person tells me to turn one of my hobbies into a business i'm gonna go berserk. is nothing sacred in this late stage capitalist hellscape?
