popcorn gives good girl, bad blood by holly jackson three stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️ this book is the second in the good girl’s guide to murder series and follows our main character pip as she investigates her friend’s brother’s disappearance. this book was very slow in popcorn’s opinion. this makes it more realistic - of course a high schooler trying to solve a mystery would need to take a break to go to school - but it was a slog until the 70% mark. the characters with the exception of ravi weren’t as enjoyable in this book either. the overall mystery was not as compelling as the first book and there were so many characters to keep track of that even when the bad guys were revealed, popcorn wasn’t as shocked because he simply couldn’t remember who they were. anyway follow for more recommendations by popcorn.

popcorn gives a good girl’s guide to murder by holly jackson four stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ popcorn specially-ordered the uk edition after hearing the book was rewritten for the us market. popcorn does not understand why they would do this or even how, as this book was extremely british. the format of this book was interesting, with short chapters broken up by logs documenting the main character’s school project. overall the short chapters made it a quick and easy read. popcorn recommends this book to fans of penance by eliza clark. follow for more reads by popcorn.

popcorn gives gold by raven kennedy three stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️ for a seven hundred page book that is FIFTH in the series this gave a whole lotta nothing for the first 70%. the last 30% was exciting and interesting, but it doesn’t make up for what a slog this book is. popcorn wishes the author had just combined the last two books in the series and significantly edited out the filler. popcorn is excited to read the final book though! it better be ACTION PACKED based on that cliffhanger! follow for more recommendations by popcorn.

I'm ridiculously behind and everyone has probably already read it. But I finished Gone Girl a couple weeks ago and absolutely loved it. The suspense, dual unreliable narrators, and strange intimacy you sense between them...phenomenal. You start by thinking Nick (the husband) doesn't know his wife at all and that he has just projected all his self-loathing onto her. Then you realize he wasn't entirely wrong and you didn't know Amy either. You don't know them but you do. They don't know each other but they do they do they do. The titular theme that you can never really know someone (yet you also can) summarized in these lines from the first page: What are you thinking? How are you feeling? Who are you? What have ... What have we done to each other? What will we do? *funny note 1: this was my 3rd attempt at reading Gone Girl over the past 4 years. every time i tried to read it i could never get to Amy's part because i just haaaaatedddd Nick so much i couldn't bear to be in his head any longer. *funny note 2: my boyfriend was extra cautious around me and even a little anxious while i was reading LMAO *sidenote: the movie was fine. i thought the pacing was a little fast, but understandable. what i didn't like was you didn't see any of Nick's internal monologue, so he just seems like a regular bum kind of a dick. when really he's like a huge piece of shit.
