🔌 i've been working so hard this summer to rip these wires out of my brain, meaning i'm trying to detach myself from the internet as a replacement for community 🖍️ i think back to how often, as a child being raised in poverty, i relied on the library for community, entertainment, friends, a space for learning, a space to feel safe, a space to be free to dive into my interests without class shame now, finding myself, as an adult still living in poverty, returning to libraries searching for those same things. it feels restorative in nature 💘 i love going to libraries to meet with people, to borrow media & tools for creation 📚 also, with the realization there is no technical limit on how many library cards one can acquire has stoked this desire to become a member of libraries in different regions its free, its without shame, its with love, for love

JOINING THE LOCAL LIBRARY

I’ve been buying books this whole time? Also putting books on hold, collecting them when they are ready and have your name printed on the docket makes me feel inordinately good.

ive seen many posts reccing and appreciating it and i do love my library for all the great programs and shit but i especially like it to go and pretend to do work and look all mysterious and angelic for the old people i guess. it’s fun

ACTIVE LISTENING

I‘ve been thinking about how listening and paying attention to people is such a beautiful way to make them feel heard, thus connecting you two even deeper. When I tell someone something and they remember it, it makes me feel important, loved, noticed, special, etc. and I‘ve really been focusing on doing the same with everyone in my life. Even when it comes to gifts or plans too like if someone bases these things on what I’ve mentioned I want, it makes it that much more meaningful
