i grew up in and moved back to/ now work in a town that gets a ton of tourists. i constantly give recs (some to everyone, some people get the iykyk spots for being extra nice/chill) and receive them in return. we’re going to my husband’s hometown tomorrow and im hoping to stop by Barb and Bernie’s favorite vineyard on the way.

idk why but there’s something cool about sharing the little stories or taking them to your favourite bars and restaurant.

I love going home. I grew up in a tiny jewel of a college town on a lake with an opera house. My mom lives in a prim little rowhouse. I love the summer. I watch the osprey that nest nearby catch water snakes and trout from the lake. I love the fall. I watch the frat boys rollerblade by shirtless, high fiving, ready to party. I love the winter. I go for long walks around the lake and into the cemetery and look at the Civil War graves while it snows. I love the spring. Everyone is so excited the winter is over, they get absolutely wasted. I see old friends from high school—teachers included—and sometimes they compliment me on some piece of writing they came across. Community is great. Townie 4 lyfe.

this is something i should do much more of. every time i visit another city i scope out the best spots, hit all the sights, and pack in my days with fresh experiences. once u live somewhere for a while u just kinda stop being excited and fall into a routine. there are still so many things i haven’t seen in nyc, and probably will never see, because 90% of my time is spent in my own neighborhood. be a tourist in your own city
