This might not be possible for everything! But when I moved from a small town to an even smaller town for college instead of going to the big city school I’d wanted to, I was really disappointed and sad for the first few months. But then I realized we had some live music every so often and going out to the bars with friends scratched a similar itch to going to a city club without being overwhelming for me. Of course it’s not quite the same, but it’s something! I’m happier in a city now, but I do find myself missing my college town often. I think it was a blend of appreciating what I could get in that town thatā€˜s harder to find in a city (like my friends being guaranteed to be close to me and not 3 neighborhoods away), and finding what I could that can somewhat compare to city stuff, that made most of my time there enjoyable :)

Listen the big city is cool and all, but people are sleeping on small town living. Next level would be to find a tiny ass town right outside of a smaller city for when you need a dose. Your money goes further, your fits, no matter how ā€out-datedā€, are always cooler, and frankly, quiet daily life is a luxury more people should try.

Don’t like the local bands in your area? Do your fav bands always skip your city? I know the feeling: it sucks. But it’s also okay! Maybe your city, like mine, has a really vibrant jazz scene. Or maybe, like mine, it attracts renowned classical musicians. Turns out there’s a tiny cafe near my house that country musicians from the U.S. travel thousands of miles to. Who knew? Don’t worry if it might not seem like ā€œyour thingā€ — just go, you could be surprised. There’s no point resisting, you have to embrace your city and play to its strengths. This doesn’t just apply to music btw, go and explore it all! Theatre, museums, galleries, sports, it’s endless…

I've lived in small towns all my life and as I get closer to finally moving to a city I’m realizing how much wildlife there is and how I’m going to miss it. I think both types of places have their perks but it’s a little sad to know I won’t be seeing a deer on the way to work in a city.
