This 2008 film is somewhat (but not entirely) ironically my favorite movie. I watched it because it's a WWII film about Dylan Thomas and his friends starring Keira Knightley, Sienna Miller, and Cillian Murphy. It's surprisingly gay, which is fun, but unfortunately also surprisingly poorly written (it was written by Keira Knightley's mom). But at this point, camp? No shade to her mom. I really love it and keep coming back to it whether I like it or not

A beautiful twist on the vampire genre. Jim Jarmusch always portrays love so well in such an interesting way. Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston are brilliant.

Céline Sciamma’s queer feminist period drama about two wammin passing the Bechdel test in the Age of Patriarchy gets a thumbs up from me. I watched this movie on the plane and it’s common knowledge that flying makes you emotional/horny, which might explain why it left such a lasting impression. This film has everything you could possibly want: lesbians, nudity, costumes, art history references, vision — all while maintaining an uncharacteristic degree of restraint and not going too hard on the political statements. The casual absence of men for the most part is a nice touch. I’d even go so far as to say that it’s up there in my hall of fame, along with Harold Pinter and Joseph Losey’s The Go-Between, Peter Greenaway’s The Draughtsman’s Contract and Alain Corneau’s All the Mornings of the World. The only thing that would’ve made it better in my opinion is if they delivered on all the threats of self-immolation in the end, but endings are something that filmmakers historically seem to struggle with, so next.

This movie is absolutely gut-wrenching. It tells the true story of two girls developing a strong relationship to the point where their parents think it's unhealthy and obsessive. It stars Melanie Lynskey and Kate Winslet, and it's their acting debuts! Additionally, it's directed by Peter Jackson. If you're looking for a queer movie to cry to, here it is. I like to describe it as Dead Poets Society for lesbians.

Sure, it takes longer to get to the beach and there will be traffic during busy times, but it is the best! Drive through the hills, past the marine mammal center, the art school, the old jeeps for sale, and that one container truck owned by a koi pond company. Laguna Canyon is magical and should never be changed

Do not get the tacos, get a burrito. They are much better! Only note is that the salsa bar always has a line and it can be an issue. Either the place is too small or the salsa's too good (it is.)
