Explains every thing in detail. Never gets annoyed when asked a stupid question. Never makes you feel like a piece of shit. Too many of us are using it to do our work which is alright but chat gpt's true strength lies in its ability to teach. AI is a tool and it allows us to overcome the human limits. Learn from it instead of making it do your entire work. I'm even learning French from it. If Duolingo is using AI, I might as well learn it from an AI.

this is definitely an unpopular take but i agree with it. ai is ultimately a tool that can really aid us in learning --- it's just horribly misused because no one actually wants to learn. i used it to aid the direction of my research (keynote direction: it wasn't the source of my data!) and it helped out a lot. but i am still scared of it and would rather we exist in a world without ai. :D

@VERYCOOLALLISON not really tho. I was using it for parametric modelling and so far it's accurate. Even for language, I have been referencing from outside sources and it's accurate so far. As far as I've seen, it comes short in solving physics problems so that's something i have to do on my own. My verdict is that you need to be smart about using it. You can't blindly rely on it just like any other tool in the world

look i know we are tool using individuals and it is in fact a tool that can be effectively used for clearly defined purposes! however, i can regularly get completely bullshit and contradictory information from it based on how i ask it questions. recent example with google’s AI summaries (that i fucking hate): i was trying to see if best buy was on a boycott list. searched ā€œbest buy boycottā€ and got some summary suggesting people were boycotting them for rescinding DEI, then searched ā€œbest buy DEIā€ and got a summary suggesting they were upholding their DEI policies & had them posted on their site lmao. i won’t rant any longer about this, it’s absolutely your business how you engage with it, but i’d advise a bit more healthy skepticism

@VERYCOOLALLISON I did say that we need to be smart about how we use AI. I also mentioned that i constantly re-check all the information I get from it. like I said before, AI is a tool and there is no tool in the world that you can trust 100 percent.

I don’t hate it. It helps me. I am actually thankful for it. I have seen a lot of ā€˜what’s hot’ posts here bashing on ChatGPT. But here’s my experience. I have dyslexia, which is why a lot of my posts have gramma issues/spelling mistakes (and why I edit my posts so much). I can’t pick them alone. ChatGPT corrects that for me. I like to write stories, it is a big hobby of mine. And I need to write professional emails for work. It helps me where I cannot help myself. I need to write a resume but I can’t read/process the job description/requirements properly? I copy and paste the information into ChatGPT and ask it to highlight what is important. Work requires me to read lengthy documents? I can read until I get stuck and AI will help me. I need to do research for university? I can’t digest all the information and pages that load on my topic of interest, so I will ask ChatGPT to recommend me specific articles to read based on what I need. Of course I try and do as much as I can independently, but extra help that’s free never hurts. A lot of people are hating on AI, but it helps people, despite the greater population abusing it.

I know people are going to be using it a lot maybe for dumb menial stuff, but I have not had a moment where it felt compellingly as though it was going to ā€œtake overā€. Everybody I’ve seen who has made that argument is somehow relying on it to be true, so I can’t trust them. I immediately judge anybody who tells me they use chatGPT for something related to their work. And I don’t think I’m being unfair. At best, something like chatGPT is a tool that people can use for brainstorming, but directly using chatGPT output is just pathetic to me. I dunno.

yesterday my coworkers said they were gonna translate a bunch of materials using chatgpt into like 4 other languages and all i could say tactfully was uhhh maybe use google translate instead. openai has done such a disturbing job of convincing people that ai is capable of critical thought when it absolutely is not and is inherently incapable of generating information as reliably as a person can. you can tell chatGPT that the sky is red enough times and it'll start regurgitating that as fact. you can tell me the sky is red once and i will go outside and look at it and know you're an idiot

Y'all ever write a word and suddenly it looks wrong? Like, the word just looks unusual. Then you cross it out and write it again but it's still the same cause the spelling is right but it looks so wrong! And so you repeat, but it remains the same and at that point you're agitated! What the actual fuck is wrong with me! And so you just ignore it and continue writing but it still bothers you. You look in the dictionary and the spelling is still the same and the word still looks wrong and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.

Tl;dr I am just talking about how I was lucky to not grow up as an incel Growing up I had no role models and so, me getting out of that alt right mysogynist pipeline was because 13 y/o me saw a video about Nirvana. A few years ago I was part of a subreddit where mostly older girls and ladies were and as I would read their comments i realised the many wrong things i was doing everyday which could end up hurting someone if they ever got together with me. A few weeks ago, i saw a reel where a girl was talking about how frustrating it was when guys ignored menial tasks like throwing socks in laundry and I realised, "oh! I do this sometimes" and ever since I saw it, anytime I ignore such things, i immediately remember that reel and all the comments on it and I just do the whole thing because I don't want to be an asshole because of my ignorance which was a result of me growing up in an environment which enabled my shitty behaviour. I feel like I was lucky in this sense because I inadvertently came across the right places. The creators I grew up with were decent human beings. Not a single youtuber I used to watch growing up ended up being in any controversy. I watched some of them again recently and some are even making videos calling out trash behaviour. It's also worth noting that back in 2014-15 yt was not full of alpha male shit. Everyone was just chilling and playing Minecraft. The video essays were still as great as they are now. If I was born any later, I am afraid I might've fallen down that pipeline and become a completely irredeemable pos.
