Yesterday was my birthday and I had a chill one. Saw everyone I really wanted to see. birthday pressure and stress is real and I like to minimise that as much as possible in the day itself. I learnt a few years ago that not having the βno oneβs going to turn up to my partyβ feeling on my birthday was the greatest gift to myself lmao. Iβm having a big party joint with @CASKEYC next month with all our friends for a big celebration, so the day itself can just be low pressure hangouts with the people I love.

one of the most memorable birthdays i have had is a surprise birthday for my 18th or 21st and i absolutely hated it. i appreciated the effort my family went through to do it but it was my literal nightmare.
my birthday tradition is to spend it doing whatever i want and not feel bad about it. if that means spending an obscene amount of money on shoes i've been lusting after, heck yeah i'll do it. if that means spending the entire day at the cinemas, you bet i'm there. if that means going out with my friends or travelling, yeah i'm doing it. and sometimes i actually just don't feel like doing anything at all and that is sometimes a vibe too.
i think sometimes we are put under pressure to celebrate our birthdays in a certain way with others or throw parties but if that isn't authentic to you or you just don't feel like it, your birthday should be the one day of the year that you can do whatever you want.

I try not to think of my age too much on my birthday, but the more I say it and write it throughout the year, the more it feels right. Spares me a few existential crisis to cope with it gradually.
I feel awkward asking people to celebrate myself, so I usually just ask friends and/or family to go out to a restaurant I like. It's a lot more casual and doesn't require much planning. I sometimes also don't tell people it's specifically for my birthday π
helps take the pressure and expectations off if people can't come.

i feel like these get a bad rep but for anxious people who like an opportunity to divert attention, this is the perfect solution
my good friend has the same bday as me and it makes me less sad about aging when i get to do it with them and focus some of my time on making sure they have a day that makes them feel special!!!

I am by no means traditionally religious, but I fully understand how being in the presence of beautiful stained glass can feel like being with god. ALWAYS stop off at a church on the way if you think it might have good stained glass. The bluebells in the bottom right corner of this made me loose my breath for a moment.
