this is probably one of my fav pop albums of the year and specifically the deluxe version. Also almost all of the bonus tracks and as good if not better than someone of the stuff on the standard version.
I think the lyricism is incredible and paints such specific imagery of past relationships Sabrina has had. Even lines that can come off as slightly rudimentary like “You used a fork once. It turns out forks are fuckin' everywhere” I think it actually adds a charm to the album and shows that it doesn’t take itself too seriously and like she has nothing to prove and when you’re the person who wrote “because i liked a boy” you definitely don’t need to prove anything to anyone.
AND THE INSTRUMENTALS!!! I think the slightly house inspired bass and drum lines like on ‘Read your Mind’ work incredibly well as a contrast to the ballads on this album. Speaking of, I think ballads especially on a pop album and leave the album feeling a bit dry and can make the topics discussed feel repetitive especially with an emphasis on relationship based ballads but with her interesting instruments and specificity in describing the situations within these songs differentiates them a lot and doesn’t feel stale after a couple of listens.
