Since the story has a flashback structure, we see Beth’s survival of her initial illness when Jo wakes up to her empty bedside, runs downstairs in a panic, then enters the kitchen to see her mother at the table until she moves out of the way to reveal Beth sitting behind her (aglow in warm light). Minutes later in the film, we’re in the “present” timeline where Jo again wakes up to Beth’s empty bed, and shot-for-shot the sequence of her running down to the kitchen is the same… except this time the kitchen is cold and dark, and only Marmee is there. 😭😭😭 Chills and sobs every time. (unfortunately I couldn’t find a good pic of the happy scene so just go watch it!!)

Just had to share my love for the show and for Anya Taylor-Joy. I haven't rewatched this in a while but I just might. Incredible. I cried. I miss Beth and Benny.

bc it’s what I originally wanted when I first went to college at 17 but I was scared to make writing my job and got a B.S. in Nutrition instead lol Now the goal is an eventual PhD in Victorian Literature but I’m just happy to have made it through this part at 32! Stacked is everything I read in my English courses—barely pictured are the 5 stuffed accordion folders of other reading materials under my chair haha
