Honestly that is kinda a rude thing for someone to say because I know throwing parties is quite a bit of work even if it's simple so to be dissing anyone for it is strange I think.
But if you're having fun and people are coming I feel like you're doing a great job already? Maybe the vibes are just not for her.
If you're not having fun then ask yourself what would make this party more fun for you. Activities are always good but the chosen activities will depend on what you like. If you are having fun people will have fun with you. Board games might be your thing or maybe it's kareoke. I personally want to host a crafts night of some kind. You could do an appetizer or cocktail contest. Or play twister.
Just be true to yourself and people will enjoy themselves. No party is going to be perfect for everybody but as long as yall make memories and talk to some friends it's going to be a success.

in an age where social interaction through merely every outlet is intentional, there is nothing more fun than orchestrating a curated social event where the hype around it transforms into something more!
last night my friend was talking to me about planning his next birthday around the theme of mario because his birthday falls onto march 10th (or mario day)! and it was the most fun i had in a while spitballing theming for games, foods, drinks, decor, etc…! the creative collaboration of it leading up to a certain date.
although something so small in reality it makes it seem like a modern day ball in my head! gives me something to look forward to :) plan a party!!!

More specifically, watching your favorite rom com and then your crush's favorite rom com (is there an adult word for crush), back to back at the same time as they are watching them. But instead of the social exhaustion of video calling you just text while you watch them. Even better you guys like each other mutually, so it should be exhilerating, but they cannot and will not be with you so instead it's just a lesson in your terrible self restraint. Exhilerating anyway. Good movies, good conversation. Unbeatable.
