Jesus and the Black Messiah- 2021 absolutely incredible film based on the real life story about how civil rights leader Fred Hampton was killed by the feds due to a criminal who was pushed to become a informant in the late 60's. it's dark but such an important watch. My Policeman- 2022 a heart wrenching story of a policeman in the 40's who falls in love with a worker at an art museum while being in a relationship with a woman. i really liked this film. i mean we have harry styles playing a bottom in an incredibly tragic love story (although his acting isn't always the best, the chemistry between him and the other actor is undeniable). We Live in Time- 2024 a non-linear telling of the story of another tragic love story of a super talented up and coming chef and a guy who was recently divorced. cried at the end of this one. i am a sucker for watching movies that hurt my soul at the deepest level, what can i say. i also love florence pugh and andrew garfield. The Seven Year Itch- 1955 just.. eh. i watched this because of Marilyn and had no prior knowledge of what it was about. turned out to be about a man finding any excuse in the book to judge others for cheating on their wives while they're gone for the summer, and then immediately doing the same thing. it is.. a product of its time to say the least lol. there were some really funny scenes that use physical comedy (ex: main character steps on his son's roller-skate and does the most diabolically hard fall i have ever seen in a movie) that had me genuinely laughing out loud so i will give it points for that.

1) Bound (1996) This movie only works because we (the audience) believe that Corky and Violet want to fuck and that Caesar might actually kill someone. I think it’s a masterpiece and it’s kind of crazy to me that it’s a debut feature. If you’re a lesbian who hasn’t seen this, you should drop whatever you’re doing right now and watch it. 10/10 perfect movie.
2) Spider (2002) Ok nothing nice happens to anyone for the entire duration of this movie. I have mixed feelings about Cronenberg’s post 9/11 catalogue (least what I have seen of it) but I quite liked the fairly literary style of this movie and his handling of unreliable narration however this might be the bleakest movie I have seen in years.
3) Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) I fear this didn’t make much of an impression on me aside from being a fun comedy of errors. I think Snatch might be a slightly better movie.
4) Grand Theft Hamlet (2024) Dead last I fear and it’s not even close. Having sat with it, I fear that the documentary itself is quite stiff and is probably 30 minutes longer than it needed to be. I think I would have gotten much more out of a simple recording of the performance (the idea for which is brilliant).

by personal opinion/enjoyment be nice to me 1. titane - this is the greatest movie ever made (many have said). nothing else i can say about it that i have not said 100 times on this app already, but i also feel like i could never truly put into words how much i adore titane, my heart feels like it's bursting every time i watch it. listened to light house by future islands for like 3 days straight afterwards 2. baby invasion (pure) - probably criminal to rank this above anything else but i honestly really enjoyed it. harmony korine either has a lot to say about the current shit garbage state of the internet or is just going through a midlife crisis but this movie made me feel really gross about our world so im going to pretend its the first one. also amazing soundtrack. nobody boil me into a stew for ranking this above uncle boonmee 3. uncle boonmee who can recall his past lives - brilliant and i can see why this is so beloved but it did not resonate with me on an emotional level, i just think there was too much distance between the different vignettes for me personally. i do adore the idea, each scene was well constructed and i think bits of it will definitely stay with me (i loved the ending scene) but as a complete piece of work it just wasn't for me 4. another day in paradise - i did not care. sorryi just did not care

Mine have stayed consistent for about 4 years now. I will show American psycho to everyone I know and gauge their reaction. Do they feel like this is a good representation of their life? Dp they focus on the sex and horror? Do they get the time period and jokes? Do they want to be Patrick Bateman? All very important questions.
Inglorious bastards is the most enjoyable movie you could watch. A serious of tense conversations that end in almost everyone dying and most of them are nazis. Absolutely perfect.
Under the silver lake is a weird one. I love the movie for what it’s trying to do and don’t fault it for not succeeding. I watch it every year around this period, just before the summer heatwave. It is an essential LA summer, conspiracy noir movie that has more good ideas than expectation. It still represents me perfectly.
Hot Fuzz is a new entry on the list, I’ve seen it a long time ago and loved it but just recently rewatched it and realized it’s everything I love. People going on with a system that doesn’t really serve them, petty small town politics, taking your life too seriously, fucking up and it not really mattering, the importance of friendship and tearing everything down. Absolutely lovely.

You don't always have to be doing something productive or creative. Sometimes it is okay to just take a step back and exist.

I've posted about this once before and will post about it again, I'm sure. One of the things that I have noticed since getting letterboxed last year is how afraid people are to admit they like something. that new animated k-pop movie on netflix made me notice this again when three of the people that I have on there prefaced their reviews with a variant of "i consumed this ironically, but it was actually kind of good..." ...LAME... and a little bit pathetic to see tbh. We really need to remember that you only live once. just fucking enjoy the stuff you like, and stop asking the world for permission and acceptance to do so! being so afraid of what others will think when you post a review under a kid's movie is more cringe than admitting you like a kid's movie.
