Overcomplicated actually. I needed a pencil cup for my desk, so I made one out of Trader Joe’s turkey chili can. I left it at that for a while, then decided to make a base out of plywood and bolt the can to it through the bottom, providing slightly more stability and preventing my pencils from spilling all over my desk.

My house is very old (pre-Ikea old) so most of the furniture doesn't fit at all. In 1914 they didn't have metric or any other system - just war and darkness. So when I decided I need a cupboard there was nothing to match my requirements. - I can build it myself it's just a wooden box after all. - Look I can 3D it!!!!

Until very recently, my TV was sitting on a long box which I had sitting on top of a dresser since it wouldn't fit on the dresser by itself. I referred to it as "frat guy engineering" but I think it might just have been "stupid engineering."

Obvious but necessary. For me: makeup / pen and pencil organization. Cute & brain-soothing. The large clear target ones are great for holding little chocolates. Side rec: candy dishes for easy holiday cheer and accessible sweets (could go full grandma inspired with some werther’s).

I didn’t like how big all toiletry bags were so I made one. It’s just big enough to hold my glasses, contacts, toothbrush, and a few other things. I also made a catchall for my pocket things out of the same canvas.

I was volunteering at a film festival and talking with another older guy that was also volunteering and found out he went to the same college and lived in the same dorm as me 40 years before. What are the odds. People that volunteer a ton love to talk and it usually ends up being about something interesting
