This motherfucker is LOUD. When I first heard it, I thought someone's exotic bird had escaped but apparently they're native to much of NA. The first bird I've ever identified from its call alone! Plus it's a woodpecker.

I looooove woodpeckers, gotta be my favorite type of bird. I've unfortunately yet to see a hairy, red headed, or pileated woodpecker (the pileated being my literal moby dick because I want to see it so bad but I only ever hear it in the woods by my house) but I have seen these guys! there's a few downy couples that go to our suet feeder all the time which absolutely makes my day every time. one of those couples, a red bellied woodpecker, and a northern flicker are in my photos though

After two years of watching all kinds of cool birds come and go I saw a pileated woodpecker for the first time today!!! It was huge!!!

This is the bird I’m getting but idk what imma name the lil fella… I think I’ll get to know it first and then choose a name based on that. It’s very beautiful though, black and white.
