When I was 15 I spent the summer hanging out with a boy I had met by a chance encounter. That summer he lended me his illustrated copy of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas that he had dropped in the ocean multiple times. Anyway it soon became my favourite book and he soon became my boyfriend. Iām not usually big on partly illustrated novels but Ralph Steadmanās art style is so incredible it reminds me of Tim Burton.Ā

I went to Miami for Art Basel and by the end of the weekend I was filled with hangxiety so I spent an extra day sitting on the beach reading Stephanie LaCavaās newish novel I Fear My Pain Interests You. Itās about the daughter of two punk rock stars who suffers from ācongenital analgesia,ā which means she feels no physical pain, and though itās definitely not a breezy beach read, it destroyed me, in a good way.

Iām reading infinite jest right now. Iāll have more to say it once Iām done with it in a little while. But I picked up a copy from a used bookstore with pic related jacket. Itās so much better than literally every other reprinting. The shade of blue, the typeface, the clouds. Itās so simple & elegant while also being so iconic and instantly recognizable. Funny enough, itās a great example of how good graphic design & marketing can encourage desire. Everything. Itās great.
The bookās really good too. Lives up to the hype so far. The part where they find that paranoid schizophrenic terrified of machines putting radioactive fluid in is brain and burying him alive & they decide to study him by putting radioactive fluid in his brain & functionally burying him alive inside a P.E.T scanner made me lol

This movie took me a little bit to get into, but Iām chalking that up to its less than ideal English dub, therefore I suggest you watch it in the original Japanese version with subtitles. Very visually beautiful movie with a very creative concept, itās made by the same creators of Perfect Blue and Tokyo Godfathers just so you know what to expect.Ā

I was a hardcore Yerba mate hater until I tried the Guayaki āEnlighten Mintā flavour. I still think the majority of Yerba mate is gross but I will continue to drink them in massive quantities.Ā
