i despise it. there are a lot of ways AI could make my job simpler and i choose not to use it bc wtf am i there for if it can just do everything for me, yuck
use the brain power and take the long way
It's a tool like any other and our kids will mock us for being afraid of it in 20 years, just like boomers hating all CGI - except the AI hate also does everything it can to protect corporate copyright, which is magnitudes worse for art than anything else
@CHRIS_NOTARNICOLA its not a tool its a replacement for skill and talent i hate this stupid fucking take, the sewing machine is a tool it didnt make people who hand stitch obsolete it made their job easier ai actively works to take jobs from those talented and who cares about corporate copywrite i hate big corps but if you make something you should have the rights to it big corp or not making people make new things is entirely necessary for art to prosper so someone not being able to publish their sonic fan fic isnt harming art getting rid of creative jobs and making art as a career non viable is. its nothing like boomers hating cgi you're just stupid

Adrien Brody won Best Actor this year, his voice was digitally altered using AI in post production. It's already ruining art, sad sad sad
The environmental impacts of data centers alone, with their massive water needs and harm to local electric grid stability, should have everyone feeling disgusting about using it to write a damn email

@EMMACHEMMA ‼️ oof, we are at a point where we can still fight normalization, at least in our daily interactions. Shaming people will only make them use it quietly, but I’m trying to get in the habit of asking people why they feel the need to use it and gently reminding them of the impact.
@LEEN @EMMACHEMMA i swear the popularity of using AI to do the simplest tasks of writing emails or grocery lists is like bringing us one step closer to the mindless citizens / corporation overlord societies we see in sci-fi movies 😭😭😭
@MARXINISTA for sure, right now it’s a “perk” and “time saver” for many, but we’re training ourselves to be absolutely reliant on it and redefining the value of our time — what an hour’s worth of work means in the near future will be very different than now. We’ll just be expected to work faster and more. I’m having these conversations with my manager (at a communications agency) all the time.
@LEEN it reminds me of how in school we had to learn written math and how to do it on a calculator (but like an extremely unethical way lol). what happens if we don’t have ai or somehow can’t access it? since we learn by doing, i think it’s going to deplete communication + critical + creative thinking skills in those who rely on it. even just for editing text. i was talking to a friend recently about how i probably will never want a gen z doctor lol bc the odds of them using ai for school are higher than any other generation 😬
ai carries too much ethical constraint for me to feel comfortable using it regularly, from its impact on the environment to its theft of information and data it just isn‘t sitting right with me. I think it has its benefits but until its Ethical concerns are addressed I’ll try to maintain a regular distance from it (While still reading up on it so I’m not left behind!)
The way you can’t even opt out of AI in a lot of cases has made my resentment for it even greater.
@DREAMYDOODLEDOO no I already have Google alternatives, I more so mean how you can’t opt out on Snapchat unless you pay, etc. I don’t even use Snapchat really anymore, but I do still have it downloaded for the years of memories. I’m sick of all the “ai edits” that it shows for you. They’re butt ugly and so unnecessary anyway.
Without downplaying how bad AI "art" is, I do not feel threatened by it. Great art reaches people who care about art, and those people will not give in to AI. If you have a commercial job as an artist like writing jingles or designing logos, sure, but great creative art will always be about human connection and expression
@LUDWIG I agrée partially because although that’s what I wrote, it IS really affecting more than “free thinking” and “creativity”. For example: the ai photos of people that can be used in a manipulative way, ai voices of people for the same use, and especially the fact that it’s very harmful to the environment. I take AI very seriously
@RUBY-STROKER oh yes, nothing to add to that. I'm talking purely about the artistic side of this because I'm very optimistic that art will survive
There are SOOOO many ethical questions to contemplate about AI, yet the stupid oligarchs want to race China to Artificial General Intelligence then probably Super Intelligence. AGI could distupt the entire world economy, putting millions or maybe billions out of work. Our evil overlords def don't read scifi dystopian novels or have any empathy or humanity to consider ethics 🙃 yet I do not believe AI can ever replicate art which is inately human (at least for now, there is so much we don't know) All I do know is that I gotta keep breathing and enjoying the little moments.🤷🏼♀️

i absolutely agree with this. i wish more people fully understood how detrimental it can be to make things solely using AI - its so detatched from the actual, tangible and incredible process of pulling things from the river of ideas and MAKING it yourself!

@MARXINISTA unfortunately I still have two years left in “high school” (secondary School for me) so I can only brace myself for the advancements made in those two years 💔
