+1 for yangmei (red bayberry?) but it's not available fresh where I live
+2 for hawberries which are also not available where I live but that's the og tanghulu ingredient and is by far the best
I love fruits so much
Okay I've never heard of loquat, red Bayberries and hawberries. Could you describe the taste a bit. Also you're one of the rare people I've come across who hold pears in high regard
@KABHINEEMKABHISHEHAD
I'm so sorry to unleash my feelings about fruit to you here:
Loquat - seasonal fruit that goes off in like 10 days so fairly rare to get where I live, so whenever I do see it or someone has it growing in their yard I try to snap it up. They taste kind of like a fresher, lighter plum/nectarine/mango hybrid to me.
Red bayberry - I know them as yangmei and didn't know the English name until Googling (also seen them called waxberry). Taste is kinda tart (like a berry) but the texture is makes it fun to eat! Sort of like a nectarine when it comes off the pip in chunks, but even more... segmented...? That sounds cursed but trust me... It's good... hahaha.... Look it up bc idk how to describe it.
Hawberries - If you've ever seen a tanghulu (like a bunch of strawberries or grapes skewered and coated with melted sugar), the OG is made with hawberry instead. However, I basically never see hawberries used outside if China. The taste (at least on a tanghulu) is kind of like a soft tart apple, so yeah covered in sugar it's so good (like a smaller, softer candied apple!)
And I don't dislike pears but specifically Asian pears (nashi pears, however they're called) are a top 5 fruit for me. So refreshing and crisp! And a folk medicine, eaten stewed with rock sugar for sore throats and stuff.
