This feels more reflective than his earlier books and lives off the stylistic consistency. It's very clearly a beat novel but the nature descriptions are beautiful

This book for me was one of those rare experiences that are entirely resetting. There’s nothing more to it than just a man’s musings on natural things along what is now part of the national seashore in northern cape cod. No plot, no real underlying lesson. The characters are the dunes, birds, butterflies, waves, and “surfmen“. The moment I finished it - I started to consider reading it again.

Lower east side, 2006. written long enough ago now that it feels nostalgic… like the cell phones are still being snapped shut. Apparently audiobook is narrated by bobby cannavale. keith mcnally included in acknowledgements. 8/10

Great read. Favorite book I’ve picked up in the past 3 years. Very Silverlake, California and its dreams of making it
