I still have the text thread of an ex-friend floating around in my messages simply because it holds photos that I don’t have directly in my photos app. I didn’t want to lose them, so instead, I changed the contact to reflect its new purpose as a photo gallery. Now, it simply serves as a time capsule of fun photos to look back on.

ever since I lost all the photos I took on my iphone 5S back in 2018 I have SWORN to always back up my camera roll to each new phone I get my hands on!! I am SUCH a hoarder for screenshots and atp there’s just way too many to reasonably filter through so Ive just accepted that they all can stay. screenshots of conversations with people who I don’t even speak to anymore. Screenshots of assorted instagram memes that i wanted to send to certain people years ago. They all served a purpose once upon a time and now they get to retire into the depths of familiarity amidst the other masses of images I have no reason to keep. But I keep them anyway. Maybe in 50 years time when my body and soul is uploaded into the cloud I will be able to walk back down through my camera roll and relive the memories I decided not to delete. That would be nice

my second favorite photo and repurposed social app…a small group of long distance friends and i make our own yearly albums of photos and everytime we get a notification that “[friend] has added photos to 2024”, we flock to the album and immediately celebrate the drop with hearts & funny comments and marvel at each other’s comps and colors. it’s pure chaos and definitely not what the app was probably intended for, but it is one of my favorite phone notifications ever.

One of the best influences a friend had on me is to make a Pinterest board of my own photos. Unlike apps like Instagram, a personal board allows you to fully fill it with yourself unabashedly. Mine works as a digital diary of everywhere I’ve been or seen. But, you could fill it with recipes, outfits, photography, anything. In time you will have created a collage reflective of yourself.
