They played a club in town on my 21st birthday and I didn’t go. The club has the show poster on the wall behind the bar so I’m reminded every time I get something to drink!
I saw them do a short set at a barely attended concert on campus earlier in the day, though. They came on after Blink (now known as Blink 182).

Satyricon was a shitty, dumpy, dark little club (the CBGB of Portland basically) with smoke crusted ceilings and a permanent bad smell, I think it might have held 400 sweaty bodies, max? The venue handed out free bottles of champagne to celebrate new year and during the opening sets, a bunch of bottles had been thrown against the wall and broke -- Krist Novoselic came out onstage, swept away the glass, and played barefoot as he always did.
The year punk broke. It went mainstream. All my favorite noise/sounds were now headed to MTV and the radio and our little lives changed forever that night. (Supposedly Kurt met Courtney there so his did too, ha).

Being in southern California, I get to see almost everyone I want, but she only plays festivals and giant venues.
Conversely, it would be a dream to see Pom Pom Squad playing in an arena because the world realized how cool they are!
If I had a time machine, my dream would be Guided by Voices when they played a club on my 21st birthday in 1995 and I didn't go.

it’s pretty cool that they dealt with their differences and got back together, writing and releasing an album about how hard it is to be friends and band mates over 30 years. their 2024 tour had some great messaging that I’m convinced could cure toxic masculinity if we let it.
side note: they’re my ride-or-die band and have been since i was an angsty middle schooler. i was super lucky to see them twice this summer, and even got to stand backstage for their Milwaukee show. unreal to be so close to my all-time faves.

I’m 50, I say because that makes me unusual in this context. I paid [redacted] for a ticket to the Eras Tour after listening to tswift for 3 weeks, and it was worth it. In second grade my teacher gave kids birthday spankings over her knee, and in sixth grade my teacher told my mom I hadn’t blossomed yet. I’m a good friend, mostly to people on the internet. I’m good at conversing with strangers. I’m usually the oldest person at the show but don’t feel like it. I’m good at being helpful. I’m sarcastic and funny and make myself laugh. I’m a good graphic designer and a conscientious driver. I’m a good photographer and I can successfully follow recipes. I don’t use my Peloton enough. I did a lot of caregiving for my mom for several years, and we enjoyed spending time together even if it was mostly in waiting rooms and my car. The fastest I ever ran a mile was eight minutes and six seconds. I drove the same car for 20 years and then replaced it with another one. I enjoy tipping, giving money to people on the street and Disneyland. I am a fan of baseball, Formula 1 racing and the Criterion Channel. I solve about 80% of New York Times crosswords. I take Prozac and Wellbutrin, and take Trazodone to sleep through the night. I wish I had a glassed in solarium so I could sleep in it on rainy nights. I would like to have a pet cat and a garage. I could happily live eating only cereal and fruit. I overshare on the internet and undershare elsewhere. ✌️💛
