one of the most brilliant singer-songwriter records this year just came out. found her music seeing her open for Bright Eyes last year. The album hits all the right notes, it’s ethereal and lush but also intimate, carried by her amazing voice. There are echoes of Julia Holter and Joanna Newsom but the songwriting feels more ”grounded” than either of those artists if that makes sense. This is at the top of my on repeat recently, It’s not my favorite of all time (my faves by her are Heavenly Bodies, Salt Water Taffy, and Give Me A Sign) but it’s fun and I love Maris so much

I recently watched The Monkey for free at Chicago's Music Box Theatre — and even stuck around for Perkin's Q&A session. I have to say, it was the best movie-going experience I've ever had. An organist played the score with diabolical cymbals in the background — come on! And the movie was hilarious and equal parts gory!
