one of the most brilliant singer-songwriter records this year just came out. found her music seeing her open for Bright Eyes last year. The album hits all the right notes, it’s ethereal and lush but also intimate, carried by her amazing voice. There are echoes of Julia Holter and Joanna Newsom but the songwriting feels more ”grounded” than either of those artists if that makes sense. My all-time favorite film is Satoshi Kon’s Perfect Blue. No other movie goes deep into avatars, alter egos, and the unraveling of one’s identity after stepping into the dark side of entertainment quite like this one. It’s beautiful and incredibly dark. It feels especially relevant in today’s digital age.
