A LITTLE ARTWORK

if y’all or your children (especially children, this would be soooo cute!!!) are inspired, do a lil painting or drawing of a place/scene/room/house that you’re staying in while you’re there. when we were little my aunts had a condo on the beach and we’d stay for a week every year. my dad would sit on the balcony and paint a watercolor of the ocean for them as a gift every year. this and maybe a gift card to their favorite local place could be really fun as a thank you.

anything can act as a souvenir 🍊

i specifically love keeping grocery slips!! they’re usually specific to the trip and just jog memory in a different way. another favourite souvenir for me is a pack of playing cards that’s connected to the place i went to, always a fun conversation starter and they’re usually not too tacky.

think back to previous visits you’ve made to other people’s homes or really lovely hotels. what stood out to you that made you go “oh!”? also, if you’re down for it, challenge your guests by putting something like “something that makes you think of me/them/us!” the more personal gifts are the ones that last

Drawing a picture and writing short prose instead of filming people doing weird stuff in public

Ok stay with me here. Too much public filming. This is going to discourage good weird public activity. We need people being weird in public. Odd dancing, carrying around insane items, freaked out fits, etc. Instead of a quick vid to show your friends, or, god forbid, *get internet clout*, people should be sketching the scene and describing it in colorful language. Now you have to take accountability for your opinion on the matter, your draftsmanship and writing gets better, and the public freaks have plausible deniability in the job interview. This goes for drunk man on the street tik tok videos as well. Put on a newsboy cap and start jotting. There should be exceptions like intentional performances or heinous crimes of course. I’m open to other exceptions I just can’t think of any rn. This will never be a reality but i can try
