Summoning all New York Piffies - the Climate Change Superfund Act is on Governor Hochul's desk, and we need to pressure her to sign it! Click the link for an email template that will take less than a minute to send :-)
This is climate attribution legislation that will make fossil fuel corporations responsible for funding infrastructure projects in New York, allowing our communities to avoid, moderate, repair, and adapt (in that particular order) to the impacts of the climate crisis. These projects will take shape in a variety of forms, from coastal wetland rehabilitation, storm drainage systems, and more resilient public transportation networks to medical care to treat injury or illness caused by the climate crisis and more. It's a groundbreaking extension of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980 (CERCLA) which made corporations responsible for the cleanup of superfund sites contaminated with toxic waste.
Aaaand just in case she doesn't sign it, there is a sit in being planned for December 10th at her office in Albany!
