Very much one for the ladies. I love her video essays and her kind of more abstract meditations. She’s insightful, mystical, soothing, intellectual, unsnobbish, staunch, has unparalleled taste and is a total cultish devotee of art, literature, philosophy, and the pursuit of glamour and beauty. Her videos are my haven when I’m feeling doubt and despair in my creative process. Her wisdom, taste, and faith help guide me when I feel I need it and the themes of her channel - her emphasis on treating your life like a work of art, of being brave ruthless and exclusive in love, and cutting yourself off from the cult of consumer-capitalism - is all very sage advice for living.

these are my fave genre and just generally an interest of mine! i love when they go beyond just reporting what happened and into why/what it says about us and culture. There are lots of creators in this space but here are a few I keep thinking about:
biz barclay’s vid on snapewives: religion, passion, fandom, the early internet.
folding ideas on the metaverse, “the future is a dead mall”: why the idea of the metaverse is so appealing and why all corporate attempts are falling apart
mina le’s recent video about booktok: the aesthetic politics of reading and how that’s at play now
I’ll update if I think of any more and would love to hear if anyone else has recs in this arena

-wrong trousers: he sounds british lol but it's like commentary on fashion movements
- emily lee: she does a lot of vlog stuff but as a stoner i enjoy her videos bc it feels like being on facetime high asf and she's just yapping
-quen blackwell: i started watching her w my gf but she is genuinely hilarious. i've really liked her feeding starving celebrities bit where she just cooks w celebrities
-dasia sade: i've only seen a few of her videos, but it's like social commentary video essays and she has lots of great sources + references
