Recently bought this vase I love and put some irises in it and I'm obsessed with how it looks. I kept glancing over to look at them all day. Happiness really is in things like this <3

Sometimes you feel wistful and bored but then you look at the flowers you bought that are sitting on your desk and it cheers you up and I think that’s really lovely. I bought pink carnations and pink tulips :)

I personally love keeping flowers in my kitchen and on the vanity in my room. I either grow some that make good cut flowers like zinnia, sunflowers, daisies, gladiolus, mums or I get whatever color flowers at the grocery store I’m feeling. Or a personal favorite is buying the pots of hyacinth bulbs before they bloom, one of my favorite smells in the world, and then I plant the bulbs in my garden after the flowers have faded so I have more next spring. Flowers in home = instant happiness boost. (Pro tip: chrysanthemums and carnations last SO long in vases as long as you change the water and trim the ends every couple days.)

There are hundreds of iris varieties, and hybrids can naturally develop. I love keeping an eye out for new-to-me color combos. It feels special to witness them so briefly in the spring.

here are some things I've done in my 20s that were a blast: - learned to fly a kite (flying a kite as an adult is the best - i recc doing it at the beach if you can manage it, more wind there) - recreating one of the showstopper bakes from the Great British Bake Off (it absolutely sucked but was really fun haha who knew baking was an exact science?) - bought some blank white shelves and invited all my friends over to paint them - attend a workshop at the library (i went to one that taught me how to pickle vegetables!) - make a perfect summer playlist, burn it on CDs, give it out to friends - make a different kind of lemonade/iced tea every week (i really looked forward to opening my fridge every day when I was doing this) - buy a book of poetry and spend so so so long going through the pages and illustrating the poem in the margins (or doodle whatever) - find a local pizzeria/bar that does open mics and go listen to the performers with some friends (why not? pizza? music? and lots to talk about!) - make shaved ice at home! (or home made ice cream if you're feeling particularly bold) - go listen to your municipal band play at the park - figure out whats in season in your region produce wise and challenge yourself to make dinner just from what you can find at a farmers market or something
h.a.g.s. xoxo
