I’m reading infinite jest right now. I’ll have more to say it once I’m done with it in a little while. But I picked up a copy from a used bookstore with pic related jacket. It’s so much better than literally every other reprinting. The shade of blue, the typeface, the clouds. It’s so simple & elegant while also being so iconic and instantly recognizable. Funny enough, it’s a great example of how good graphic design & marketing can encourage desire. Everything. It’s great. The book’s really good too. Lives up to the hype so far. The part where they find that paranoid schizophrenic terrified of machines putting radioactive fluid in is brain and burying him alive & they decide to study him by putting radioactive fluid in his brain & functionally burying him alive inside a P.E.T scanner made me lol

i know… the worst guy you ever met had half this book stuffed in his messenger bag and made out like he was a genious for reading what seems like the longest book of all time. fuck that guy. it’s genuinely a good read. take it slow, dont feel pressured to get through it quickly. there‘s enough bouncing around from character to character that it doesn’t stagnate. i read it on several 5 hour plane rides over ~2 years and have had a tender place in my heart for it ever since. it’s also afaik the place where my Capitalizing for Emphasis comes from. reading it now is extra neat bc of how many little things dfw got right about the future. did i say neat i meant scary

stories over time of a cast of characters loosely linked through the music industry In a post-modern style like not too dissimilar to vonnegut each chapter can be seen almost as a stand alone vignette edit: after re-reading your ask, I’ll admit not the weirdest book, but it’s also definitely not run of the mill narrative fiction. If you want weird, read Naked Lunch by William Burroughs. One of the most banned books of all time for a reason, grotesque, obscene, challenging, but imo definitely worth the read and I’ll be rereading it sometime. Helps to read along with a study guide to make sure you’re following what’s going on.

i recently read this cover to cover on a flight home. i honestly did not expect to become to drawn in, i love a book that puts blinders on me, making me focus in and want to ignore anything off the page. the not so far off dystopian tone to the novel was eerie but familiar… a story that doesn’t seem too far away. more like this please.
