Working on a farm at maybe 16? Don’t think I was even driving yet. It was Christmas season so that meant a lot of carrying trees around and sawing off the ends of stumps so that the trees would start absorbing water again. This stupid lady and her granddaughter were being kinda picky about their tree and wanted some of the knots cut off so I was doing so. Did I mention that it was raining? Because it was also raining that day. Being someone at least as stupid as the lady, I decided to cut *towards* my hand. The saw which could barely handle the tree had no problem skipping off the trunk right into my knuckle. So clutching the now sliced open knuckle with the now shredded rubber glove hanging off of it, I walked back to the break room, never talking to that lady again.
At the ER they tried shooting some novocaine in with a syringe. I will never forget the visual of it going in one side of the cut and shooting out the other side. I got a couple stitches and now have permanent reminder of which direction to hold my cutting instruments.

I was riding my bike to work in the rain, when I was crossing the bridge it was slick and my knee went right into the grates.
I got to work, wrapped it with a clean rag, and opened up shop. After an hour or so, once I was finished, I checked and the blood had soaked through. Hmm, that doesn’t seem good.
I went on my smoke break and was chatting with a courier about it, worrying if my bike was damaged. He took one look at my knee and said, “fuck your shitty ass bike, you need to go to a hospital!”
So I went and got my first and only stitches. The nurse got annoyed with me because I was very interested in the whole process and probably was all up in her space. I now have two little arrows on me knee pointing 🆙

mom was using a machete to clear the tall weeds in our yard at our new house in Thailand. i walked up behind her to ask a question and got caught in her backswing. i clutched my elbow and saw a dark red streak go down my arm. it was so deep you could see ligaments and fat tissue. we had to drive 45 mins into town to get stitches and tetanus shot but at least i got out of yard work for the day. lucius is so jealous of this scar lmao
i also have a scar on my leg from a lipoma (benign fat tumor) that needed removal in high school. and a huge scar from surgery to repair my broken collarbone from the seatbelt that saved me from dying in a horrible accident in college. i have metal plates and screws holding me together. and a few scars on my hands and wrists from the broken windshield glass.

We had an old pitchfork laying in tall grass with the tines pointing up and me and my sister were playing tag. So I was running very fast and caught it on my leg and then fell on it.
I didn't go to the hospital even though I should've, and now like 11 years later I have a funny round scar on my ankle.

Make chicken that dries out your entire body ! Make soup that sits in your stomach in the worst way possible ! Screw up pasta so badly that the Italian government declares it a hate crime ! Then next time you make these things make them slightly less awful ! I learn by doing and fucking up and doing again, and as long as something is gained from a disaster, it is not a disaster in vain.
