* One long faint white slice on my index finger because I was washing my Ninja blender and I dropped the blades and instinctively grabbed them to catch them as if they weren’t literally just sharp blades lol
* One red mark where I tore a chunk of skin off of my hand scraping it against a very very matte finish painted wall in my apartment building violently jerkinh my sweet little friendly dog Benny away from a hulking lunging German shepherd named Maverick who just “got excited”

🩹there is something so poetic about tearing yourself apart over and over and your skin becoming stronger each time, like a small shield made out of your cells with which your body says: i am here and i don't want you to hurt. the one on my left heel reminds me of all the hikes i've done and the one on my right hand, where knives rub against my soft skin, reminds me of all the fulfilling meals i've made. now, walking or dicing doesn't hurt anymore. i'm being kept safe.

My dad teases me about how when I was a little kid, my favorite thing to do when I was on the landline phone with somebody—be it a relative or one of my best friends—was to breathlessly describe the things that were in my bedroom so that they could have a mental picture of everything I loved and chose to surround myself with, and where I sat at that moment in time. Perfectly Imperfect reminds me of that so thanks for always listening and for sharing with me too 💌
