Everyone’s taste is different, but many of us formed ours the same way: by scouring the internet, researching, and cataloging everything that interested us. The phenomenon has existed since the early days of the internet, before everything became a product sold to us through algorithms and advertisements. Our new column, Browser History, is about these formative early internet experiences — the memories of forums, message boards, chat rooms, and other bits of internet ephemera that shaped the taste of today. We're very excited to kick this off with a piece from Brad Philips. He's one of my favorite writers, an early PI guest, a Pi.FYI user (@BRAD-PHILLIPS) and more recently - a friend. Enjoy <3

I find it boring when people only recommend abstract thoughts. (It's not like I'm above it, I've done it before and I'll do it again), but if that's the only thing you recommend, you might want to go to twitter or whatever place is replacing that site right now 😒. EDIT (2025): at this point, these are not even recs, it's just you displaying your thoughts.
I want to see things to read, listen to, watch, products, places. Go crazy. This is what this site is for.

this project is the result of thousands of hours spent coding everything from scratch after I got laid off six months ago
no thiel-bucks or weirdo outsider money, just a pure desire to make something fun and true to Perfectly Imperfect’s day one goal of helping people find new things from real human beings, not algorithms or AI
a pure labor of love that I’ve been quietly plotting for two years and it’s completely self-funded from my (rapidly) dwindling savings account
so thank you for coming along for this weird ride 🫶 let's see where it goes
