i have an air fryer with a touchscreen or those buttons within a screen and i hate it. half the time the buttons don't work, no matter how much or how little pressure you put on it. and when my hands are wet or sweaty, what even is the point in trying. whoever decided that everything needed to be touchscreen is the worst. manufacturers need to bring back actual tactile buttons, preferably slightly squishy ones or the ones with a clickety clack sound. sincerely, a girl with sweaty fingers and very little patience for faulty haptics.

I think I have the opposite of whatever Steve Jobs had because I hate touch screens. I miss the feeling of a real *click* in cars to eject a cd and the tactile sensation of dialing numbers etc. flicking switches and turning dials needs to make a comeback.

i miss weird phones as much as anybody but honestly i think phones are too much of a solved technology at this point. the touchscreen was the best thing to happen to software and the worst thing to happen to hardware. it also doesn't help that there are fewer manufacturers now and they have more of an incentive than ever to keep making more boring, more expensive designs with higher margins.
at least some of the new folding/bending ones are sort of cool but there's only so far they can go.

i treasure my iphone SE something since i am the only person i know who still has a phone with those thick sides and a home button that unlocks your phone with your fingerprint. remember those days?? i’m keeping this phone in as good condition as i can and holding on to my button privilege forever. plus i like the small screen 🦭

i don't think anyone ever intends to become a recreational ornithologist. but i've noticed that it definitely creeps up on you slowly in your mid-twenties. it starts with noticing how funny pigeons are, then learning pigeon lore, and suddenly you're feeding your neighbourhood birds every morning and buying books on birds. as a child i idolised the pigeon lady in home alone 2, and i woke up this morning and realised — i AM the pigeon lady 🐦

reading is a habit of building and developing your empathy and critical thinking skills. you’re forced to sit with an idea for however long you are reading it and forced to contextualise it and comprehend it within your own life and perspective. You can’t just scroll away or pause or put it on 2x speed. you have to sit with it. it’s super underrated, but genuinely I’ve made this a habit for the last year and feel like a totally different person. also you come out of it having learned something new or seeing the world in a slightly new way. I literally do not see any downsides to reading. make reading cool again! also you don’t have to do it in one big block, you can space it out — 15 mins here, 45 there — whatever works for you!

our cultural obsession with being perceived as cool is a disease. its peak capitalistic/consumerist propaganda. fuck being cool. like what you like and who cares if it's cool or not. it's tiresome and we need to leave it in 2024. literally nothing gives me the ick more than people who betray themselves in an attempt to be perceived as cool by the masses. be yourself — even if it means you're 'uncool'.
