performed on stage tonight for the first time in 14 months with the coziest and kindest little theatre company and my dearest of friends in the audience. one night only (really 12 hours including tech + dress rehearsal) and yet the evening will probably sustain me through the rest of these winter days. My whole life has been spent in and around theaters. They are my church. These days it seems like we take performers a bit for granted. But for every stream online there is a person who had the guts to get up onstage and perform in some theater somewhere. My two favorite places in Los Angeles for live performances are Largo at the Coronet and The Elysian Theater. Go to either place any night and you will very likely find something wonderful and surprising. Don’t you want that?

for some reason there’s an embarrassment around starting from scratch + opening oneself up to learning the basics esp if you feel “behind”. trying to release from that in playwriting and the result has been great. taste and gut are still paramount but growing the toolbox is so fruitful

you cross the river and take a funicular up a hill and stumble upon 2 massive roman amphitheaters.. then jutting out the side of a hill is this bond-like brutalist semi-subterranean fortress housing the most thoughtful roman museum on an authentic, underrated roman city…worth your time…a magical experience
