this morning, I woke up to an email in my inbox announcing the end of Posh Isolation’s activities. as the bittersweet news hit me, I want to use the “P.I” box to give them a rec because this label was, and still holds, a significant part of the end of my teens and early twenties the internet was a little bit different back in 2014 and plataforms as rym, reddit, last.fm, yt, soundcloud, bandcamp, and even soulseek still held more relevance than spotify when it came to discovering new music. there was a stronger sense of community and curiosity for independent artists in those spaces. “one release” acts and limited cassette tapes were a thing too and just as some found us, and some we found, in far faraway country while digging sacred bones releases(another great label), I came across an album titled No One Dances Quite Like My Brothers by a duo called VĂ„r. And that led to Lust for Youth and, eventually, Croatian Amor, all under a so called label: Posh Isolation. I had never heard of them before, and as far as my broken english and nonexistent danish could lead, that was the start of a boundless appreciation for me... on that note, I am forever thankful to the internet no borders the Copenhagen-based label started in 2009 as a way to support and open room for the upcoming danish "experimental" scene they were in/evolved to. over the years, it released 297 records, 14 compilations - as far as I know, created a singular language, made amazing merch
and, just like this worn out jacket of mine, reminded me how quickly time passes by check out some of their compilations or save a last dance at their upcoming events on feb 22nd and march 13th in Copenhagen, if your geolocation allows it I wish I could dance quite like their brothers, drĂžm sĂždt

I'm older than some of you for sure but not old enough to have seen Honor Role before they broke up in 1989. A metallic/post-hardcore take on the Southern pastoral, just mad rigorous and tense. The band's singer Bob Schick passed away a few weeks ago and I've been revisiting his body of work, which you can hear some of (along with a selection of farflung Albini recordings from other artists) here: https://www.mixcloud.com/mosurock/heathen-disco-show-377-1-june-2024/

sorry ian, but we’re making bops now! just kidding. from the devastation of ian curtis’ suicide in 1980 rose new order, a band that needs no introduction. everyone in the world knows ”blue monday,” the most lucrative 12“ of all time. however, if you move through new order’s discography, you see the (obvious) influence of joy division— most joy divison/new order fans know ceremony was originally a joy divison song (and there’s allegedly a few lost recordings of ian singing it). however, i think if you listen to ”closer,” joy division’s second and last album released after ian curtis’ death, you see the natural progression OF joy divison. “isolation,” the second closer track, has the synth makings of something from new order’s early days. one of my favorite new order songs, “every little counts,” has the simplicity, eccentric/sometimes macabre lyricism, and instrumental makings of a joy division song. (i’ve also mentioned before that the ending orchestral flourish is very reminiscent of ”atmosphere,” one of my most beloved joy division tracks.) the influence they’ve had, the honor they’ve brought to ian, and the path the band has moved through is something that makes us acolytes of joy division-new order smile with happiness. tl;dr: listen to “krafty” by new order (from 2005’s ”waiting for the siren’s call”) and try to feel a negative emotion
