Journey, one of my favorite games. I mostly play fps games and prefer games that are extremely competitive. yet the serine and angelic experience that is Journey puts it over the top. I strongly recommend this game, it’s only around 45 minutes. But every minute is precious. (perspective: I have over 5000 hours on CS:GO/CS2 and would never recommend someone play that pile of trash)

You start in the desert and walk to the top of the mountain. You might meet someone else! or you may travel solo. First video game I ever played and it remains my favourite of all time. I recommend trying to play it in one sitting for maximum emotional impact — it takes about 3hrs start to finish.

If you can withstand the occasional slur thrown your way by a teammate when your molotov just misses its mark by a couple feet, this is an incredibly rewarding strategic shooter that is super fun at the casual level - just don’t take it too seriously. It’s an iconic game for a reason and worth checking out for its historical/cultural significance alone. It has retained its idiosyncratic features from an earlier age of computer gaming that makes it feel like a fresh change of pace from the slew of twitchy, bombastic, movement based games like Fortnite, Call of Duty, etc. For example, you have to stop moving to shoot accurately, there’s no sprint, slide, or dive, you have to put your gun away in order to throw a grenade. It’s slower, more intentional- and as such, it’s really able to dig into your mind. I would recommend finding a friend who has played this game for years to help show you the ropes - there’s a high learning curve to start with, but overcoming each obstacle feels really substantive, like learning a new language.

Alice Madness Returns - first played it in my first year of uni at 18 and it became my whole personality, recently replayed it and it basically happened again. The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood - a recent play and the game that has me considering becoming a game writer Death’s Door - dark souls for cutie pies. i just find this endlessly repayable because the controls feel so nice for me. Also the first “hard game” I played that convinced me “hard games” aren’t out of my ability. Final Fantasy X - the first “real game” I played on my ps2 when I was like 10. my friends used to make fun of me for not going out to play after school because I was doing anotber ffx replay. Shout out to the spyro trilogy and Spiritfarer - the endlessly replayable basis for my favourite kind of gameplay, and the first game to make me cry, respectively.

i’ve never cared for the color blue. if you were to ask me, i’d say my favorite color is green. BUT i’ve always loved the natural blue that emanates from ocean and lakes.
