My #1 was One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Also loved The Bell Jar, Hamlet (though I never would‘ve understood it by myself) and Slaughterhouse Five.

I’m so lucky I didn't have to read this until college because there’s no way I would have appreciated it as a high schooler.
I will also always go to bat for Macbeth (specifically for Lady Macbeth) and Hamlet (for depression).

It was about a week before I was supposed to leave home for college. My aunt had bought me a copy of that & a copy of David Copperfield, neither of which I had ever picked up. She said something about those two books being very important for a kid like me. I still havent read Copperfield all the way through. Dickens is too English for my taste. But on a whim, that night I opened up Catcher. I read it till morning. It’s cliché & corny, but I hadn’t experienced the feeling of encountering some sort of soul mate in a book until reading that book (and wouldn’t again until I got in to Kafka). I still love JD Salinger to this day. I just made my way through Franny & Zooey actually. Adored it

i'm not sure if you consider more recent classics but as a lit major here are some of my faves that could be considered classics: wuthering heights, pride and prejudice, song of solomon, the crying of lot 49, slaughterhouse five, 1984, hamlet, macbeth, and it's not a novel but the collected short stories of ernest hemingway... many of them are bangers. i'm not a hemingway novel fan but his short stories are often so good

I have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning, so I like to watch these very soothing videos of people across the globe waking up at like 5 a.m. to make homemade bread and soup and listen to the birds. No dialogue, no influencer-voice, just thoughtful little captions. Choki is the OG.

I regretfully admit I was a Caroline Polachek hater until the second I heard this nonchalantly spoken line while the camera pans down the high school hallway in I Saw the TV Glow

I don’t know if it’s widely considered “bad” but it is corny as hell and I love every second of it
