this took me some timeeee. first thing is to try not to get too upset if you can’t find sizes at the thrift or anywhere really i just tend to only thrift. i think layering is one of the first things people usually suggest when someone is looking to change up their style but idk about you, i get hot way too quickly. if u wanna layer still, try looking for pieces that are a cooler material like cotton or smth if you are wanting to layer. a staple fit for me has been a short or long sleeved button up with some jeans. i like buttoning only the one second from the top because i feel like it gives a better shape and then wearing just a plain white or black tee underneath. accessories are really good to play with, especially if you’re expecting to lose weight because other than rings and belts, they’ll stay with you no matter your size. thrift a nice pair of sunglasses, put them in your hair even if it’s gloomy! hats too, these i find harder bc of my head shape but if you look long and hard enough you’ll be able to find some nice ones. last thing, try stuff on even if you don’t think you’ll like how it looks!!!! i would get so in my head and insecure that i’d pass on things that i thought would only look good on skinny people but once i stopped and just gave it a shot i found some of my most favourite pieces

Look at the six items you actually wear and note what you like about them: is it the color, the fit, the style (casual, formal, eclectic, etc.), brand, season, and fabric. As an example, I feel most confident in structured, classic modern outfits— I look for all organic materials (linen, cotton, silk), I tend to stick to a few favorite brands for basics, and I keep a list of what I need to replace/what’s missing in my closet so I don’t impulse purchase vintage t-shirts when I need a fitted blazer. Thrift stores are really great for exploring your style— so are mood boards. When you see an outfit you love online, take a picture of it or note what about it was interesting. One thing that I think goes overlooked is underwear— a well fitted bra really changes how clothes, especially shirts, hang and feel. You’ll only wear an outfit if the underwear you wear it with is comfortable. So if you have a dress you love, but aren’t wearing it because it either requires shapewear that makes you uncomfortable, or a nude/backless underwear or bra that you don’t keep in your closet, you’ll get less wear out of the item. Additionally, know your measurements. Your body size is neutral, but language around sizing isn’t, and it can be discouraging to shop when you have a vague idea of your sizes and end up needing to size up or down. Get a soft tape measure, and get your true waist, hips, bust, shoulders, inseam, and rise. I have a very high rise to my natural waist, and knowing that helps me shop for pants and skirts with less frustration over fit. Lastly, it’s okay for it to take time— curating your style and wardrobe should be ongoing and thoughtful; a fast fashion haul won’t help figure out what you like outside of trends, and those clothes tend to break down quickly. If you can, try to buy well made versions of your staple items— resale and thrift stores are a great place to find real leather jackets, upscale basics, and one of a kind pieces that you can’t find elsewhere.

i really lost my sense of personal style for a couple years. i found that going to a store and grabbing a bunch of shit to try on can be super fun and helpful when getting your mojo back that way. getting to take a real look at yourself in the clothes really helps you envision what they’d look like with the rest of your wardrobe. you’ll see what you love, and what’s not for you. the best part about it is surprising yourself when something you didn’t think you’d like actually makes you feel really good! going to the stores to try things on is free and can be a fun date with friends! have a real movie makeover moment if you wish. the biggest thing that got me excited about dressing myself again tho was identifying the pieces that i absolutely adore in my wardrobe and utilizing them as much as possible. i love finding new ways to style the same jacket or dress or whatever. that’s even better than buying something new because you already love the piece and it already fits your style!

i’m fat so sadly i’m quite limited because a lot of shops don’t carry anything over XL (they hate me) and thrifting is often tough too. for basics i usually end up going to target or old navy or sometimes tj maxx. thrift stores are slim pickings sometimes but i have better luck with jackets, shoes, and skirts than other items that might not be cut right for my shape. comfort is paramount cuz when i’m not i get distracted and annoyed and i’m also reminded of my body image issues instead of focusing on the people around me. when shopping, i discard anything that tugs or makes me feel constrained even a little bit cuz i know that will end up hanging in my closet untouched. i have to be able to touch the fabric and i always look for quality materials that feel good and will last. as for actual style, i love earth tones and jewel tones and colorful, unique patterns. sometimes i dress as a fun aunty, other times i attempt a more casual street style. i love leather accessories, they're classic and last forever. i’ve had great luck thrifting beautiful leather shoes and purses. wearing earthy colors and materials makes me feel calm and elegant and close to nature. i also love a fun statement jacket although it’s rarely cold enough in Austin to wear them for long. i look forward to having more time and energy (and money) to put towards developing my personal sense of style ✨

i neeeed to have a smashed up iphone 7 in my hand right now!!!! there is nothing like it. the sun felt brighter, the air felt cleaner, i didn't know good music yet, i didn't know good movies yet, my brain was just empty. no opinions on anything, all i did was look at screen, cry, sleep, and eat. now i have to do stupid things like work at h&m and be angry at the world. i wanna go on musically and watch jason derulo dance in 2x speed and look like an animatronic. i want to watch the fosters with my mom and be so young and stupid i don't understand what the big deal about callie and brandon is. i wanna be amused by hour long wisdom teeth videos. i want to make friends with random people online that i won't even remember a year later. i want to tell my mom my stomach hurts and i need to stay home from school 4/5 days of the week! give it back!!!!
