monomania is probably my favorite album of all time, up with maladroit by weezer. times to die is my favorite on the album, but itâs all great. iâve always taken more of a liking to their older music rather than the remastered stuff, like face to face or teens of style. overall vibe of the album is good, not to mention the cover. I also rlly love car seat headrest ! i only downloaded this app cuz I saw they followed PI on insta XD. Ive listened to the album on Spotify but I canât seem to find the song youâre talkin abt. Where do u listen to it ?
This band means so much to me. Evan Weiss is somehow always genuine but never precious, always smart but never pretentious. I have come back to his catalogue so much over the last decade plus. I remember staring into space on the second story balcony of my first apartment listening to Standards. My now 11 yo was 2 and asleep in the other room. I was a newish dad which isn't really important to loving into it over it but at that time I daydreamed a lot and this band makes me feel like I am going to learn from every mistake. So drink responsibly.
[Iâm no music writer- I might not have the vocab to adequately express what I want to say here]
It took me way too long to listen to this album. I think itâs perfect. Iâve been an oM fan for a while, but I was always frustrated by the pacing and structure of some of their songs. For example, Lysergic Bliss is a great pop song, imo, then goes into the back section of seemingly unrelated acapella. Impressive on its own, but itâs a skip every time for me⊠I could list a handful more where I feel the same way if you disagree with that one.
This album is made of self-contained songs filled with the catchy hooks and fun chord structures that make oM great. The melodies and harmonies are beautiful and they remind me of paul mccartneyâs songwriting- especially on Everything Disappears When You Come Around. Itâs to-the-point: 35min total with a lot of the tracks in the 1:00-2:30 range. The songwriting is far less abstract than in other releases, which makes it easier to follow. Itâs largely a happy album, great to walk around to. Now that the weather is starting to turn I think you should try it out or listen again.
all praise goes to In The Aeroplane Over the Sea, but Neutral Milk Hotelâs debut is maybe better. It sounds similar, but more abrasive and variedâ reminding me at points of Tall Dwarfs, Avey Tare, LVL UP, and Silver Apples.
âSong Against Sexâ, âGardenhead/Leave Me Aloneâ, âNaomiâ, âWhere Youâll Find Me Nowâ are maybe my favorites.
Makes me feel nostalgic for something I canât remember, like looking at a strangerâs sun bleached film through a zoetrope.
monomania - car seat headrest and maladroit - weezer will always be albums iâll shove down peoples throats. theyâre my two favorite albums, and i think theyâre a good choice to listen to first for both band
