Beautiful album!!!!!! such a bright but warm piano sound! brown butter voice! the album tastes like waffles and burnt coffee and leftover smoke in a cool breeze!
I knew Tex Crick from “Peaches and Cream” but nothing else. so enamored about this album gonna listen to his newest tomorrow.
i could write for years about this album being the peak of sophistipop greatness. but i’ll leave you with just two things.
one:
this man recruited RYUICHI SAKAMOTO to produce this and produce this he fuckin did.
two:
roddy frame had this to say about the process aside from Sakamoto being a genius:
“Frame says his days there rapidly fell into a pattern. Into the studio in the early afternoon; out again at around 2am; straight across to a deli off Time Square for a turkey sandwich ('because it was possible to get one at two in the morning, and for no other reason'); a cab-ride back to the Mayflower; an hour or so listening to Shabba Ranks on a ghetto-blaster; bed.”
LISTEN NOW.
LOVE this album, no skips for me—reminds me of Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles, The Beach Boys… 60s/70s, Laurel Canyon-Rock-vibes. Especially loving “Back On You,” a sweet anthem/ode to family 🩷
