writing is sometimes the only way to find a voice, and when you are surrounded by people you despise- maybe they despise you back or maybe you are gravely misunderstood or misinterprated whatever it is- reading other individuals writing, they're way of seeing the world can be incredibly grounding. in a world where conformity and placidity is becoming increasingly trendy sometimes reading something thats just so pointed, so passionate can be very grounding. and even the angry vitriol-filled peices can be calming because you can read it and say - 'hey someone actually cares about this!'. so i recommend reading more- not necessarily books but articles, blog posts and why not tweets??

I think a lot of people can find reading really intimidating because they feel they have to read the literary greats (which can be linguistically inaccessible), and while I believe those have tremendous value I also think they aren’t requirements. If you want to read exclusively romance, or YA fantasy, or murder mysteries, go for it. I think when we put parameters on what should or shouldn’t be read we make it feel like a chore or an assignment. But I think there is infinite value in your airport paperback as long as you are finding true enjoyment. Anyways this is basically a long winded way of saying, read what you want and don’t feel like you aren’t as good of a reader just because you aren’t reading Hemingway.

If you start reading again, you'll feel better. If you read in an omnivorous and far flung manner your days will get better. You will have more to say and more to think about. You can become an evangelical for reading from a place of pure desire and care. Unusual books contain unusual knowledge.
I will post books as an act of human class solidarity. Most posts will include a link to a digital copy, but you will love going to the library. We are lucky to get to hold books in our hands.
