I always loved philosophy in school, it’s been one of my favorite subjects to study. And with it, I feel there is so much value in the uncertainty that it often provides. while it was at first frustrating not being able to come to a concrete answer, I’ve learned that’s what makes it so important to the human experience. The person that has no tincture of their own philosophy is imprisoned by the prejudices they derive from common sense, habitual beliefs of their age or their nation. To truly open yourself to the world, and to truly take control of your mind, you cannot let those convictions grow in your mind without any co-operation or consent of your own deliberate belief. Uncertainty is inevitable in this world, and that’s ok. At a time where everything seems to be so absolute, be uncertain in your beliefs or ideas, it’s a great step to growth.

mmmllrrr another one of my favorites from Erich Fromm, “The quest for certainty blocks the search for meaning. Uncertainty is the very condition to impel man to unfold his powers.”

Used to be a firm believer that chaos could create interesting art and make me a more interesting person. Maybe that’s still true for someone else, but I’ve come to realize the most interesting parts of yourself are already there if you choose to love yourself and Life. That would’ve sounded so trite to a younger me, but I feel it bone deep rn. There’s so much to lose from living outside your natural conviction and peace of mind. Don’t think there’s much to gain from it either.

As someone who grew up watching films with happy endings, I expected my life to have one as well. But it just doesn't work that way and I'm slowly learning how to sit with that uncertainty. Life really isn't so black and white.

have so much to say about this; for brevity-sake, ill say that every challenge and pleasure you experience is meant to be observed, sometimes examined, to check-in about how you’re evolving in the process of being your best self. success is ambiguous and subjective, it’s whatever it means to you, but for me it’s to be fully myself, take care and have a nice time. when a shit thing happens or i don’t get my way i’ve come to see it as a blessing and purposeful, and i ask myself what i could possibly learn from it. there’s always a thing to learn, even if it’s mere acceptance. it’s saved my mental life, i tell ya that sometimes you think you’ve ‘passed a test’ but the situation is a ‘pop quiz’ in a different format: how you perform on that assessment is not meant to trick you but to check in on your progress and maybe illuminate areas that still need your attention, something else to learn because the timing and scenario is different. it’s beautiful.

While it’s not inherently a philosophy book, I really loved the moral lessons I took away from this book. It’s a wonderful read :)
