i just cut open an orange, i smell it. i am about to make some tea, i smell both the cup and the tea bag. i am cooking, i smell all the ingredients and spices and make sure they work together. putting on a t-shirt, i smell it. about to pour some water into my water bottle, smell it (that can be disgusting). i don't know if this is a habit or a tick but i do it unconsciously.

I don’t know if i am alone im this or some of y’all have the same experience but my sense of Smell is making me so anxious. I could literally shower for half an hour put on new clothes and still have a sensation that something stinks around me, i even tend to ask my friends if there is a weird smell but the answer is always no. My biggest fear as you can conclude is to smell bad and because of it instead of “naturally” smelling something and knowing it’s bad, it seems like my NOSE is actually the one searching for it and tricking my mind in thinking something smells bad. I always smells dishes before i use them, smell my shoes before i wear them, smell my bag before i take it … Initially the issue started when i got COVID, when i regained my smell after recovery i was smelling stinky fish 24/7 (which seems like a commun symptom to a lot of people after recovery) and from there i developed this smell anxiety thing.

I saw a comment online where a european person was like “what do you mean Americans can smell that it’s going to rain??” which made me think of this lol. I can’t believe not everyone can smell when it’s going to rain. So mine first and maybe someone else also smells this: I can smell when someone has been to the beach, which some may say would be obvious but it’s not. I live and grew up on an island that’s not even a mile wide so I know what I’m smelling is different, it’s not the smell of the actual water, seaweed, sand or anything; there’s this specific smell that’s almost like melons when someone has been at the beach but not even necessarily in the water. Especially if they were walking on the beach in the morning. I put together what I was really smelling eventually because say I would be working inside all day and someone would come in to where I work, before I knew what I was smelling I would be like “oh my gosh, what perfume are you wearing, it smells kind of melon-y?” and I would get something along the lines of “I’m not wearing any” or “I didn’t put perfume on because all I did this morning was walk on the beach.” Sometimes some lady would look a very confused over it even because it was like she had no idea what smell I was talking about and knew she didn’t put on perfume lol. Someone else tell me they know the smell I’m talking about😭
