my newest favorite book is Rebecca by Daphne de Maurier but it’s even better because the 1940 Alfred Hitchcock film adaptation is free on YouTube. It feels very Lana del Rey and cool.

I recommend imagining Joan Fontaine’s sister Olivia de Havilland as the eponymous Rebecca because she looks the part and because of their real-life rivalry. Drama *enhanced*

Incredibly stylish movie. Gorgeous b&w, the score, the glamor, the fantasy, the ending. I watch it whenever I want to feel like the lady of the manor. Gothic country house noir comfort movie.

Have watched it so many times
Shirley MacLaine's first movie. Thanks younginvert for the rec that got me thinking of it.
Edmund Gwenn is an absolute delight.
