One of my best finds. Throwback to when I found a baby Canadian goose when she was a couple weeks old (tried to place her back with her family and they attacked her) so I raised her as my own baby LMAO. Security (shoutout to my sister for the name) lived up to her name by attacking strangers that got near me. Missing my sweet girl…She’s not dead just migrated🥲 Wish I could post videos because we use to go swimming together all the time. She also loved to eat fish we’d catch her in the cast net, flounder was her fav #goose #babyanimal #water #cute

4 summers ago I spent lots of time taking photos of the spring ducklings, squirrels, cormorants and the like at my neighboring park and was absolutely blessed to meet Henrietta. Isn’t she stunning? Apparently they are extremely rare, and having seen a million mallards in my life, this was the first and only! I have more pics of her (with her family, growing up), so if any wants to see lmk and I’ll post some 😊

On a terribly arid day in late August, a bird started hiding inside a hanging flower pot in the porch of our house. It stayed there for hours on end, completely still, and my sister and I were beginning to worry it was injured and simply couldn't get out of the dense foliage on its own. Not knowing if we were making a bigger problem out of the situation, we decided to leave the bird be and if it was still there the next day, we'd look into solutions to help the little guy out without touching him or spooking him. To our surprise, however, when I went to check on him the following day with my dad, the pot was birdless. That was until we took a closer look and found a single, small egg. The bird wasn't injured or a dude; it was a MAMA BIRD taking care of her little egg!!! My joy and exultation at learning this information is hard to encapsulate in written form, but it made me so happy to know this birdy thought it safe enough to take refuge in this flower pot in front of our house and use it as an improptu nest during those super hot summer days. Over the following weeks, my dad, sister and I kept a close eye on the pot, making sure the flowers didn't wilt so the egg would remain protected whilst the mama bird went out to get food. We'd update each other on the bird and her egg's progress in our gc and literally felt like proud family members when the egg finally hatched. Post-hatching, we watched from afar as the mama bird fed her little one and it got progressively bigger and stronger. We knew what would happen next, but it still came as a surprise when we came to check in on them one day and finally found the nest empty. I'm regaling this tale not just to share the happiness I felt during those late summer weeks, but to recommend being respectful to and protecting our fellow animals with whom we share this planet with; especially the ones we encounter so often in our day-to-day lives and don't stop to think twice about. Pictured below is one of the few hi-res pics I was able to take of the mama bird as she guarded her little egg (she was incredibly smart in picking this location– you legit couldn't even see there was a bird in there unless you were really looking).

I have been selected by the cat distribution system twice! I found one in 2020 and the other in 2021, they were both kittens I found on the side of the road (Peanut and Spooky) one incredibly malnourished and the other fat (she had worms🤦🏻‍♀️) One thing I’ve found when caring for kittens at a young age is they need help going potty! Their moms would typically be grooming them and helping the potty process, but if the mom isn’t around a warm compress can be used, wiping the area in a downward motion will help stimulate them to go potty. Keep their faces clean, especially when you’re using formula still, it sticks and hardens quick! Potty training is so much easier the earlier you start, hold the kitten and gently move them backwards in the litter, you can even put the 💩 they may leave elsewhere to help them associate the box with potty time. NEVER encourage them to think hands are “toys“ best to introduce them to wands, crinkle toys, fake mice, etc. All kittens are different when it comes to affection and when they want attention, best you can do is take note of what your cat likes and dislikes as it grows and respect boundaries.

My sweet baby that I found in a parking lot during a storm. She enjoys being held like a baby, kisses on her face, being the little spoon, and laying in the window . Dislikes men, goob, moving (which we are in the process of doing) and her stomach being touched. #cats #catdistribution #meow
