Sunday is the last day of the weekend. End of the week. saturday and sundays come in a pair so it’s weird to split them up on calendars
also the international standard for date and time, ISO 8601, calls it the 7th day.
might really vary by country though, as in the UK most people see it as the last day, whereas I get the impression that many americans see it as the first.

if is a weekday, no matter the day, “this weekend” refers to the weekend at the end of this week. if you are talking about the following weekend, you have to go “what are you doing next weekend?” and emphasize the word next, and do a little hand gesture to show that you mean not THIS weekend, but NEXT. if it is the weekend, it becomes more simple: “this weekend” refers to the weekend that is happening, and “next weekend” obviously refers next weekend. hope this helps. lol.

i work from wednesday-sunday every week and so monday and tuesday end up being my weekend
it's kinda nice, i can still enjoy saturday/sunday events in the evening as well as getting to go run errands when places aren't too busy on my actual days off.
