Ottolenghi’s lime and poppy seed slaw with curry leaf oil is great and so — though very different — is Marcella Hazan’s smothered cabbage and rice soup.

-Cupus Salata - Serbian cabbage salad just finely shred cabbage and toss with salt, pepper, olive oil and white vinegar. A dish that is much greater than the sum of its parts - Cabbage and noodles - caramelize a ton of onions and cabbage, season generously and mix with egg noodles. - Sarma - Serbian dish made of fermented cabbage leaves stuffed with a mixture of meat and rice (or walnuts for a vegan/lenten version) braised in a tomato sauce. One of my favorite foods of all time, best when cooked by lil old church ladies. - Roast cabbage paprikash - cut cabbage into large wedges and brush with oil and salt and paprika, roast at 450 until pretty much cooked. meanwhile, cook down onions and diced red bell pepper in butter and add an absolutely absurd amount of paprikas (i use smoked, regular, and hot. truly use way more than you think, a tablespoon will NOT cut it, it’s honestly more like a quarter cup but I never measure) and add chicken or veg stock. Sinmer until thick enough to your liking, add in cabbage until it’s very tender and translucent. Finish off with some heavy cream, sour cream, or just leave it alone. Serve with egg noodles, homemade hungarian dumplings, pasta, crusty bread, or even rice. - Curtido - commonly served as a side for pupusas. Thin sliced cabbage, red onion, carrot, cilantro, oil, vinegar, and oregano. look up a recipe for this as Im not an expert on south/central american cuisine but I do love it. - Okonomiyaki - this one may be the most up your alley as it’s topped w kewpie. It’s a big japanese savory pancake that often has a cabbage base. Beat an egg and some flour, add sliced cabbage and basically any sliced veg you like. You can get really creative with fillings (the name literally translates to something like “grilled as you like it) but I usually do cabbage, onion, mushroom. The real kicker is the sweet BBQ sauce (look up a recipe but honestly american BBQ sauce like sweet baby rays works in a pinch) and mayo topping. People eat it most often with a hearty serving of bonito flakes on top but my husband is vegetarian so I skip that. Again look up a recipe, I usually watch a couple short videos and wing it and it turns out great every time. Big cabbage fan over here and I hope you make at least one of these sometime!! 🥬💚

My grandma probably ate this a lot. And now I am eating it. I put bbq sauce on it, weird. Rec because it’s an easy asf lunch and cabbage tastes like nothing so you can use it as a vessel for whatever sauce you want. PSA: cruciferous vegetables are superfoods.

It seems like kimchi is getting more fermented cabbage love as of late but I think sauerkraut deserves equal amount of attention. Thank you

I start most days with some puer (fermented tea) and my diet comprises a hell of a lot of krauts, pickles and vegan kimchi--- a little pile of kimchi or kraut is the final touch on almost every meal I make and pickles and olives are a perfect snack for any hour of the day. The most beautiful flavor of all time is Achaar, the Indian pickle dish composed of mango, bottle gourd, lemon, lime, gooseberry and carrot among other things; this as close as the culinary gets to the complex mystery of music. Shopping Rec's: Kimchi: Choi's all the way--- RIP Matthew Choi, the mastermind behind the deepest vegan kimchi. Pickles: Forever Chicago's finest Claussen <3 <3 <3 (though not technically fermented)--- as for the real-deal fermented stuff, I'm not sure I've ever had a salt-brine pickle I didn't appreciate; direct acidic deliciousness. Kraut: Ashland, Oregon's Pickled Planet Veda Kraut and Beet Kraut are just totally simplistically profound. Blue Bus's masterpiece take on the Salvadoran Curtido... bless it. Kombucha: constant oscillation of GT's Guava Goddess and Health-Ade Cayenne Cleanse Olives: Trader Joe's garlic stuffed Achaar: check out your favorite local Indian spot's pickle dish and thank me or hate me later.

I’ve been rewatching his shows and falling in love with his work, yet again. One of the coolest men who have ever lived and has inspired me throughout my entire life. If I am ever not singing the praises of this man, something is deeply wrong with me. Now the question is: what is his best show?

It is my belief that so many people would be less lonely if they invited their friends to do their mundane errands and chores together. Dont have time to see your friends, cant afford to go out to socialize? Invite your friends to things you already will be doing and it ease some of the pain of the responsibilities. Or call someone to come over if you made a little too much for dinner. here is what I shared tonight: chicken thighs, fairy tale eggplant, fennel salad, and a nice groleau red wine
