In pre-21st century movies and media, we always see couples that go to bed, independently read their books, and once sleepy, clap off the lights and peacefully retire to sleep. Maybe there’s a reason this trope is so common! Maybe couples who read together, sleep together!! Reading before bed regulates my brain and body in ways I did not know were possible. Screens are bad for you, specifically and especially before bedtime… who knew! And with a good nights sleep I have so much energy to do things, including but not limited to more reading.

My parents have been married for nearly 30 years and they both read side by side in bed every single night before going to sleep. I think it's such a peaceful demonstration of love and comfort.

reading before bed is so calming but also I feel a sense of romanticism in reading at night. But I also love reading on the train, although different, feeling productive always makes me feel amazing throughout my day.

For any doom scrollers that used to love reading: Pick up a book when you have the urge to scroll, etc. Helped build the habit in me so fast

I think I haven’t read in bed since I was a teenager and would stay late absorbed in a book. Nowadays I can’t even read on the couch without getting sleepy, let alone in bed 😭 I mostly read on public transportation now

As soon as i start reading a paper book in bed, i get sleepy in 10 mins! my insomniac fiance can’t read before bed or he will just stay up reading until he finishes the whole book LOL , BUT i think there is a lot to be said for reading before bed!!!!!! It can help regulate the nervous system (esp if you clock a lot of screen time in your day) & it helps your eyes relax!

Before I was fully WFH, I would always read on my train commute, but when that stopped, I stopped reading. I fell into a habit of watching tv and then sitting on my phone in bed until I passed out. Then I decided to start reading before bed and I’d never go back — it’s less screen-stimulation right before I fall asleep, it calms my mind, and I get through so many more books. If you only make it one page before passing out, that’s ok! Now I’m excited to climb into bed 30-60 min before I want to be asleep so I can read my book. (The only downside I can think of is that sometimes it makes me want to stay up later to get through an exciting part in the book)

BBB. Reading a chapter before I go to sleep has slipped its way into my routine and I love it because : 1. My dreams run rampant in the best way 2. It gives me something fun to dwell about before bed 3. Good unwind from the day

It's like a decades-long habit now (it used to be analog books now it's a digital reader). Does the trick; settles my mind (I sleep like a baby most nights but never for more than 6-7 hours), keeps me engaged in something outside of work, establishes a "here's the end of the day" routine in my brain. Your mileage may vary :)

Collecting a stack of printed takeout menus from local restaurants is equivalent to finding community in your town/city. I love to get off my phone and flip through a printed menu when deciding what to order for dinner, appreciating the graphic design choices and the hometown staples on each menu. And they are only wasteful if you waste them! What great material for emergency note-taking, for adorning your fridge, for COLLAGING! Oh my goodness what great and meaningful content organically exists in a printed takeout menu from your favorite local spot.

Mr. Cassavetes is the man who has made me cry the most, isn’t that saying something! Starting ten minutes into the 2.5 hour-long film, I felt my heart slowly sink into my stomach, and by the end I was claustrophobic with such feelings of hopelessness, confusion, and the sting of reality. I cried myself to sleep, I didn’t know what else to do with myself! A WOMAN UNDER THE INFLUENCE is worth a watch for all these reasons, and for Gena Rowland’s unmatched and masterful performance, and for these reasons is a movie I must never watch again. Brava!

In 2025, I am embracing Breakfast. And not just a latte-for-breakfast moment, but Breakfast as a meal. Like how aimeefrance on insta is conducting Breakfast as, truly, the most important meal of the day. Lately, my favorite breakfast has been a half pumpernickel bagel, with a light coat of cream cheese, and fruit. Pumpernickel is nutty, is complex in flavor, and is versatile! Dare I say, what sourdough is to bread generally, pumpernickel is to bagels specifically! I eagerly await the day where I can try my newest food fixation, the pumpernickel bagel, with a soft scrambled egg and cheddar cheese, or with puddles of butter dotted with strawberry jam!
